INFRARED @ The Peer Hat 29th May

Infrared are a Manchester-based grassroots band, with elements of shoegaze and indie-rock. Having seen them before (photos of which are on my website), I knew they would bring the energy, and I was right. The packed-out crowd were dancing about excitedly, especially to their songs "Insanity" and their debut single "Red Lights", inspired by 2 different trips to Amsterdam, focusing on feelings of longing and escapism. The song hosts an epic drum solo played by drummer Harry Richards, and the lyricism by the band's lead singer Lucy Bevan has an almost ethereal style.

My personal favourite part in the set was the elements of crowd participation in their performance, such as the moment rhythm guitarist Tom Clark started playing in the crowd (pictured left). I felt this gave an exciting, intimate moment between the audience and the band. Additionally to this, in their finale "Living Without You", they had the crowd sing  along with the "oohs", as well as having bassist Sam Eddleston-Rose and lead  guitarist Joe Tarry sing, creating a fun moment for all. At this point, the crowd didn't want the fun to end, and chants of "One more song" resulted in the band playing an encore of the crowd favourite "Red Lights" again.

Seen performing at an array of venues across Manchester (and the occasional gig in Sheffield) Infrared is a group of friends who love performing together, and the chemistry between everyone on that stage is something that can't be forced. With their debut single out on all streaming platforms and the EP soon to follow, they are a talent worth watching. If you're a fan of alt rock, such as Wolf Alice (if so, you would love their cover of "Baby ain't made of china"), or dreamy pop like Magdelena Bay, you should listen to Infrared.
